Eye Care for Computer Users

By

These days, almost every individual uses a computer. Around 50 percent of people who use computers experience some sort of eye problem. The most general eye problems which computer users face are headaches, strain on the eyes and sometimes even blurred vision. This is not a very good sign particularly because our eyes are one of the most important organs in our body. Stress on the eyes can cause fatigue and reduce the efficiency with which a person works.
With the increasing use of computers, many users have become vulnerable to a disease known as glaucoma. Just like any disease or problems has a way of prevention, so do eye problems. With simple and easy steps for eye care, computer users can keep their eyes safe and perfect for a long time.
The symptoms which are faced can be reduced with small things such as a correct posture when using the computer, having a proper workstation to provide comfort and ease while working, glasses can be worn which are made particularly for computer use and eye exercises can also be carried out by a computer user in order to reduce the stress on the eyes and to increase the flow of blood to them.
Some of the most common problems which a computer user faces are blurred vision, itchy and dry eyes, and an increase in the prescription of their glasses if worn and pain in certain areas of the body.
Some of the following exercises can be carried out as part of eye care for a computer user.
• Near-far focusing: this is an exercise which helps in improving the flexibility of the eyes. This requires a person to focus on their thumb which is positioned 6 inches from the nose. You are then required to inhale and exhale slowly. Next focus on an object 10 feet away and repeat the process. This helps the eyes in focusing on near and far objects hence increasing flexibility.
• Palming: this is an exercise which helps in eye relaxation. Rub your hands together until they get warm. Once warm, cup them over your eyes without applying any force or pressure. Try and relax during this procedure; the more relaxed you are the better you will feel.
• Head rolls: Another exercise which you can use will help in relaxing your neck, shoulders and your muscles. This involves basic breathing exercises and relaxing your neck and head simultaneously.
Everybody can practice the exercises mentioned above, not just computer users as eye health is very important. These will certainly help in relaxing your eyes and help you in seeing better.
